Jared Padalecki is TALL, not wide. His hips are NARROW. And his legs are sort of short for his body. His proportions are big, yeah, but sort of not as symmetrical or as well proportioned as other tall people, like Tom Welling.

Jensen Ackles is WIDE. His shoulders are almost as wide or wider than Jared's. Take a look at some clips from the show of them sitting side by side from the back, we got some of that in s3/4, and you can see how WIDE Jensen is. Also, he's more fairly proportioned. His leg to body ratio is very pleasing and equal. His hips are wider, he's getting older and his hips are spreading (see Clint Eastwood). He's NOT FAT. This is just something that happens to the male body after 30 odd years.

These guys have probably something close to the same waist measurement. Jared's stuff will be longer but not BIGGER than Jensen's stuff. So pj/sweat bottoms? SO GONNA FIT.

Jensen is not a damsel fly to Jared's dragon fly. He's NOT SMALLER. Just shorter. Mmmmkay?

Sheesh. One more 'jared's sweats hang off poor jensen's narrow wee little hips' and I'mma chuck all over my key board.

ETA: RE: comment, Dear SPN Fanwriters: Jensen Ackles has BROWN HAIR. He HAD blonde hair like, YEARS ago. Now, it is brown. With some light brown highlights. Get over it. Also, his eyes are not GRASS GREEN nor are they JADE GREEN. They're sort of greeny-hazel. Sort of. GET OVER IT.

I never do get the "fat" thing. One of my friends put it something like (in terms of Sam and Dean) that she loves how Dean's body looks good in a my-life-requires-a-general-level-of-fitness kind of way, without all the gym rat bulk.

And honestly I think that's part of the reason why, as beautiful as Jared's body is, and he obviously works really hard at keeping it that way, I sometimes find it kind of jarring in regard to Sam. Because how does Sam have the time or money to guzzle protein shakes and lift?

And really not all that much shorter, if you really look at them together. I'm looking at our photo op from the LA con and Jensen is obviously quite a bit taller than my 6-foot daughter.

Hee. It's one thing to have hipbones peeking over the waistband--because that is hot like the sun--but if we're trying to make Jensen a delicate little flower, then, just...no. 'Course you already know what I think about guys being guys, having read my slash.

I never even SAW the fat thing. He's a guy, who looks like a guy who naturally stays sort of guy-ish in shape. Also, he's taller than Charlie which makes me happy on levels. Did I mention you could still see Charlie's tattoo's when I was TWO FEET AWAY AND LOOKING AT HIS CARAMEL COLORED EDIBLE SKIN? No? ooops, my bad.

I think it might be a big challenge for slashers to write them as equal. It's a bit of work throwing someone equal in weight to you around a bed and getting all worked up. Both of them together on a bed is a LOT OF FLESH AND BONE. Over three hundred pounds worth, easy. That's MASS IN SPACE and you'd need a: a BIG bed and b: SPACE.

I think that's one reason my daughter prefers Jared. (That's the three of us at the Dallas con last summer in the icon) Us big girls like for a guy to be bigger and stronger than us. Which brings me to this:

I think this is actually a lot of the appeal, all that big strong MALE tumbling around the room. You've seen the "twice the cock" icon, yes?

Also, slashers (read: women) are like I mentioned above, turned on by being manhandled, and they often write Jensen that way.

That's one thing I often wonder about, how realistic that is in regard to real m/m sex. If you really think about it, sex (with maybe a couple of exceptional positions I can think of right offhand) is nearly impossible without some level of submission on one person's part. Somebody has to be the do-er and someone else the do-ee.

But again: I don't believe that means one of them has to turn into a ginormous, muscular, sweaty GIRL. Because...eewww.

See, w/r/t point three, I've SEEN guys of equal size fight ALL THE WAY THROUGH SEX. Neither one surrenders. They wrestle and grunt and moan and buck and it's a really big fucking turn on. I've seen sex where neither guy lays back and says, 'that's it, big guy, just give it to me'. Though I've seen that too. But the two equals wrestling through sex is tough to write. You have to be willing to write them both working for it. Instead of one WINNING. In my scenario, they both win, but they earn it. ON both sides. see what I mean?

www.seancody.com when I went through my 'doing actual research' phase of writing slash, I bought myself one month on sean cody cause I felt I was actually seeing guys, real guys, have sex. ;) so, yeah, go forth and 'research'...if you know what I mean.

Up to now, I've been of the "everything I know about m/m sex I learned from a straight/bi woman" school of slash writing. Although my "slash consultant" has a lot of gay friends she asks if we really get stuck.
