Have now bought two starter decks, two boosters and a miscellany of odd cards from the comic book shop, the door to which did not explode me into dust.

God, it's been over 10 years since I played MTG. My sister and I used to play the shit out of it. Most of the cards we used to use are banned now :P

Because cards that seem ok initially open the door to broken combinations and they have to pull them from play, especially since in the heyday, people were competing for $10,000 tournament prizes...

This is the reason Magic is on it's 10th+ edition at this point- plus the fact they can keep selling cards this way.

yeah, there sure are a LOT of cards out there. it's bewildering. But we just settled on stuff we like and make a game of it. I like green and white with a little blue mixed in. Alex is Black, red and blue. We had fun with the special addition mana cards too.
