I seriously could not believe it when I heard about this rally and what he'd said about how 'we' were the ones who were responsible for the civil rights movement in the first place. It was like my brain went into Blue Screen of Death mode for a minute.

you know, during the first crusades, the excitement, the near hysteria, to save the 'Holy Land' was out of control. on levels. People thought they were speaking for god, hearing god. They'd listen to any one in hopes of one scrap of a reason for them to leave their only homes to go to a whole new world and 'save Jerusalem'. This mania became so exaggerated and extreme, they believed a goose was channeling god.

I believe Glenn Beck may be our goose.

Glenn Beck belongs to a religion that fought the ERA tooth and nail.

Glenn Beck belongs to a religion that wouldn't let African Americans have the same rites (no pun intended) as white members until a decade after the Civil Rights movement. (I was nearly one year old when Spencer W. Kimball said blacks could hold the priesthood.)

Glenn Beck belongs to a religion where the thirteenth prophet, whom Beck quotes extensively (http://thinkprogress.org/2010/06/25/beck-quotes-benson/), wrote a nasty little forward to a nasty little treatise called (trigger warning for racist imagery) the Black Hammer (http://www.affirmation.org/images/covers/the_black_hammer.gif).

Glenn Beck needs to SHUT THE FUCK UP and stop pretending the folks who back him and his paranoid manipulative agenda of crap were anything but antagonistic towards the Civil Rights Movement.
