Standing In Line to Vote
Nov. 1st, 2008 07:08 pmOkay, seriously? I don't really care how long someone has to wait in line to vote. In fact, just the knowledge that standing in line is what we're now talking about makes my shriveled little democratic heart expand a few sizes. I remember a decade ago when apartheid was demolished in South Africa and there was something like 90% voter turn out and news photos of people standing in line for a whole day and I cheered for them and wished I could see that sort of passion here in America.
I realize there are probably reasons, good ones, why this has not been handled more efficiently.
But you know what? GO TEAM DEMOCRACY.
Vote. Vote on Monday if you have early voting in your precinct. Vote Tuesday the 4th if that's when you can do it. And no, despite what some voters are getting in the mail, EVERYONE VOTES ON TUESDAY.
I'm not ready to give in to joy yet.
But Tuesday night?
I may be incoherent.
