This is Adam Savage at the Maker's Fair, 2008, talking about creative obsession, creativity, breaking your creative habits and the journey that is the destination. He says a lot of things I've been thinking, have thought, but better and with more results. It's been a while since I felt this sort of excitement about the creative process. Also, his organization tools are really cool. I'm inspired.
Update on my last post: I managed to get hold of a purchased copy of Ubuntu and installed it successfully on my machine. I'm very excited for a number of reasons, one, because I did it largely by myself whereas I've always relied on the kindness of strangers before and I've wanted to become more self-reliant; two, I've wanted to move away from the oppressive, overcontrolled and under supported microsoft environment; three, it's REALLY COOL and it's FREE.
I could not be happier to see the back of 2008. It was a year of growth, accomplishment, depression, emotional breakage and extreme outrage burnout. And I'm much more committed to the environmental, economical and social simplification I've been talking about for a few years. Having less and being and doing more.
I've been following the lives of my friends through live journal this year, both personal and fandom and I love you all and I know you won't feel this, but I hug you in my mind a lot. You know who you are...;)
I won't necessarily be journaling or commenting more, but I do continue to read and hope this year will be one of new renewal, of creative flourishing and of social growth and awareness.
I look forward to it.
